Cherishing the Sweet (Fleeting) Moments in Toddlerhood

Ladies, my daughter let me hold her bottle for her today, woot woot! I’m totally living in those memes about how one time you’ll do something for your toddler and then the next day they won’t need your help and how you never realized that was the last time you’d (fill in the blank).

She’s at an age where we’re in the middle of lots of those moments. Brushing teeth, getting dressed, putting shoes on, putting a movie on her tablet, etc. Somehow even the last diaper change skipped by without us noticing it was the last one. But, there are still those moments of “I can do it myself, but I want your help.” They are the sweetest moments – and now I record them religiously!

Today she let me hold her bottle, and it was magical. Her sweet little eyes stared at me while she drank her bottle, and when she was done, she handed it to me and said, “Save it for later?” I will definitely miss those sweet moments. I often ask her if we can still snuggle when she’s thirty and she says yes. I think I should record her saying that as proof! 🙂

I don’t know how the time goes so quickly. I’m not exactly sure where the last year went. I could swear it was just yesterday that she got home from the NICU, but apparently, that’s not the case!

Even though it’s bittersweet to see the baby days fade into the past, I love my sweet girl more every day. She’s more fun with each passing moment. Now, when I get home she says sweet things like “I cried because I missed you. I love to look at your face.”

She also just asked Grandma if they could bake brownies because she was “in the mood.” She picks out her nail polish colors. At her request, her daddy’s birthday cake will be pink, peach, and purple.

Matching nails!

For Christmas, she wanted two live penguins – one for her and one for her friend (we ended up “adopting” one from the WWF and getting them stuffed animal penguins). She has a mind of her own and it’s so sweet. She also has lots of Amelia Bedelia moments, which cracks us up!

I suppose this is the beginning of a long line of bittersweet moments, but thankfully each new phase brings more amazing memories.

What bittersweet moments are you experiencing with your toddler?

Stephanie is an only child, married to an only child, raising an only child! Stephanie and her husband (Brian) are Pittsburghers at heart, but made the move to Charleston in ’08 after moving around the country. Stephanie has a background in television, and has a (not so secret) dream to start a talk show and to publish books. She’s currently working on her first book and recently started a blog, called Speaking of Today (https://speakingoftoday.com), with her friend and fellow mom Dawn. Stephanie loves to spend every spare second with her daughter Kennedy. Kennedy was born 12 weeks early and spent the full 12 weeks in the hospital. Thankfully Kennedy is totally healthy, but the experience of being a preemie mom certainly changed Stephanie’s life! She looks forward to sharing stories of mommyhood with the Charleston Moms Blog readers.
