Welcome to our second Charleston Moms EATS! Did you miss the first one? No worries, check it out here!

Each month, we’ll be highlighting the goodness that is local food in the Lowcountry. It might be a particular dish, a unique drink, or a new restaurant that needs to be on your must-try list.

Huriyali

I first learned of this gem on Huger Street in 2016. I had just had my third baby and my aunt mentioned that there was a juice and acai bowl place she knew I would like right around the corner from her house. After school, the kids and I walked down to Huriyali with my aunt and we shared the most delicious Acai bowl. It was the perfect treat I needed as a sleep-deprived mama…nourishing, something cool to eat in the September heat, and a place the kids could safely play (we played eye spy) while I sat and relaxed! Since then, Huriyali has been one of my favorite spots downtown!

Our first trip to Huriyali (picture in front of the peacock), Acai stained shirt!

Huriyali (meaning “green vibrance” in Hindi) began from two CofC graduates, Tom McFall and Ruchi Mistry, who met at school. After graduation, they moved to Ruchi’s home in India and while there, they both developed a passion for juicing (which was rooted from Ruchi’s mother who made fruit and vegetable juice for her every morning). The juicing helped Tom, whose stomach was having a hard time adjusting to Indian fare. Together their passion for juicing and spreading the awareness of its benefits grew and Huriyali was born!

Whether you are craving a gorgeous Acai bowl, salad, or smoothie you can rest assured knowing that it will be made fresh and with as much organic produce as possible from local farms like Ambrose and Joseph fields. You may notice that their menu changes based on what is available; like the artwork they are always reinventing and creating based on what is fresh and seasonal…this is something I love!

My current favorite is the Mermaid bowl which is just as magical as it sounds! It’s made with banana, papaya, blue matcha (this is butterfly pea powder), and topped with cut fruit, coconut chips, granola, and seeds. I also love the Golden Buddha Bowl made with roasted sweet potatoes, sautéed greens, seasoned black beans, cilantro pesto rice, sprouts, pepitas, and topped with tahini turmeric dressing…I can’t turn down anything with roasted sweet potatoes!

If you are in need of some self-care (aren’t we all these days), head over to Huriyali. Order something colorful and nourishing, snap a picture next to the peacock wall mural or of your Instagram worthy food, take a seat in the peaceful “secret garden” in the back. Soak in the love that was put into making your meal, and leave with a smile…you deserve it!

Huriyali is located at 401 Huger St., Charleston, 29403
