Chamber Music Charleston’s 22-23 Classical Kids Concert Series opens on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 11 am with a performance of “Ferdinand the Bull.” After being introduced to the musicians of the wind quintet – the flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and french horn – the audience will be transported to Spain to learn about the history and culture of the county. The concert concludes with a musical setting of the 1936 beloved children’s book “The Story of Ferdinand” by Munro Leaf and Robert Lawson set to music. The book’s memorable illustrations will be projected behind the musicians while the story is narrated.

The Classical Kids Concert Series continues on Monday, December 19 2022 at 11 am with a performance of “The Night Before Christmas.”
Celebrate the most magical holiday season with a special Christmas Classical Kids Concert! Favorite holiday songs fill the air and well-loved stories come to life with classical music. Musicians of Chamber Music Charleston and CMC TWO perform a variety of holiday music as actors including Colin Waters of Charleston Stage retell classic Christmas tales such as “Snowman at Christmas,” “The Donkey’s Christmas Carol,” and “The Night Before Christmas.” We will even have a special visit from “Elsa” – brought to life by Charleston’s own Laura Ball – to perform a brand-new arrangement of “Let It Go” from “Frozen.” If we are lucky, it may even snow!

The Chamber Music Charleston’s Classical Kids Concert Series concludes on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 11 am with a performance of “Harlem’s Little Blackbird: The Story of Florence Mills” by Renée Watson with illustrations by Christian Robinson. The incredible story has been set to music of H.T. Burleigh and is narrated and sung by operatic coloratura Soprano Diana Thompson-Brewer with musicians of CMC.
