10 Tips on How to Overcome a Mommy Meltdown

I want to share with every mom how important it is to take care of ourselves. Let’s face it. As mothers, we have been driven to the point of exhaustion at some point in our lives. We have a lot on our plates from taking care of our kids, cleaning, cooking, working, and more! At some point, you reach your breaking point where you just need a break! This is what I call a “Mommy Meltdown.” It’s real, and it’s tough!

When a mom is driven to exhaustion, it makes it hard to do everyday tasks. It’s emotionally exhausting.

I know personally I am the sort of person that I give a lot without thinking of myself until it’s too late. I have experienced this way too many times, and it’s always nice to remind yourself to take that break. Here are some easy ways for anyone who’s on the verge of a Mommy Meltdown so you can overcome it!

My top 10 tips for overcoming a Mommy Meltdown

1. Take a hot shower!

Pamper yourself with alone time. Yes, tell your husband to keep the kids preoccupied, or when your kids are taking a nap and just indulge in that fifteen minutes of alone time. Little luxuries like this one I find so helpful. Bonus: add some relaxing music!

2.  Talk to a friend.

Talk about what’s going on in your life. I don’t know about you, but just talking to a friend helps to put me at ease. There is something so refreshing about having someone that understands how you feel and knows exactly what you are going through.

3. Take a walk.

Sounds crazy but simply taking a stroll around can boost up your mood. It reduces your stress and makes you happy. It’s a win-win!

When is the last time you bought something that you have been eyeing? It doesn’t have to be splurge-worthy! Buy something that makes you feel amazing!

5. Call a sitter!

Take some time out to do something that you love to do! It could be getting a massage or just enjoying the silence. Take a couple of hours of alone time and recharge yourself.

6. DIY manicure and pedicure, anyone?

Personally, I love this self-care act. When is the last time you treated yourself to doing your nails or having them done professionally? There is something so amazing about soaking your hands and feet in warm water and picking out an awesome nail polish!

7. Remember to drink coffee.

You are never too busy to forget to drink coffee. It sounds simple, but it makes such a difference in my mood. Sometimes I forget to drink my coffee in the middle of chaos with early mornings getting ready for school. When I do miss this ritual, I feel it in my attitude.  So, please, ladies: Coffee, coffee, coffee!

This is something really simple to start doing. Take your mind off of the daily routine. Let your mind enter a different world for a bit. It’s a great mental break!

9. Indulge in a treat!

That cupcake or pastry shop you have following on Instagram… give them a visit! You will be surprised how much that will sweeten your day!

10. Momcation anyone???

Take the plunge. Book that trip you and your girlfriends have been talking about forever. It doesn’t even have to be in an exotic location. It could be a staycation. Book a hotel that has a day spa for a night or two. You will definitely come back feeling refreshed!

Moms, taking care of yourself is by no means being selfish! We give so much as mothers that our cup is empty, and for us to refill it, we need to take care of ourselves. So go ahead and get those cute shoes that you have been eyeing for the past month, or maybe go to the movies? Whatever it takes!

Our kids deserve a happy momma. In order for that to happen, we need to have a break to avoid mommy meltdowns. Let’s take that moment now before we hit the edge. You more than deserve it, mama!
