Giving back to our community is so important and we are so excited to present Charleston Moms CARE, a series where we highlight different non-profits around the Lowcountry. We’ll tell you more about the organization and how you can get involved!
This month we are featuring Be Kind Charleston, a grassroots effort to connect with one other through acts of kindness and compassion after a stressful couple of years.
Be Kind Charleston
Be Kind Charleston was formed as a response to the negativity in our society around the pandemic, politics, and other issues that divide us. Be Kind Charleston’s mission is to encourage people to share kindness with others. It’s that simple!
Founder Tina Arnoldi, a resident of Mount Pleasant for over 20 years, organized the group after observing so much pessimism, disagreement, and mean-spirited interactions among people over social media, in the news, and in our community. She hopes that reacting to one another with kindness can become the norm instead.
Ms. Arnoldi also hopes to spread kindness to our neighbors who are homebound or struggling with isolation. COVID-19 infected many people with loneliness and depression in addition to physical illness. Be Kind Charleston aims to reach out to these individuals and help them see they’re not forgotten.
How does Be Kind Charleston share kindness?
Volunteers create handmade cards, write a positive or inspiring message inside, and distribute them to local non-profits and facilities. So far the group has donated cards to East Cooper Meals on Wheels and Hope to Home. Be Kind Charleston is accepting requests for cards from non-profits as well as individuals. Do you need a pick-me-up? Is your child being bullied and could use some friendly words? Request some kindness through the mail!
