Charleston Moms CARE: Non-Profit Spotlight On Lowcountry Blessing Box Project

0

Giving back to our community is so important and we are so excited to present Charleston Moms CARE, a series where we’ll be highlighting different non-profits around the Lowcountry. We’ll tell you more about the organization and how you can get involved by volunteering!

This month we are featuring Lowcountry Blessing Box Project, a local non-profit aimed at bridging the gap of having to choose between buying food or paying bills.

Lowcountry Blessing Box Project

Food insecurity is a serious matter as studies have shown that adults will skip meals or reduce their portions to be able to provide for the children in their homes. Lowcountry Blessing Box Project was started in early 2017 to help stave off this problem. Because of these efforts, what started as one box has now grown to about 200 boxes all over the Lowcountry.

Ways to get involved

There is one rule-‘Leave what you can, take what you need’. The Blessing Boxes should be stocked with non-perishable food items, basic toiletries, baby supplies, and anything else you think might be a blessing to someone in need. Donations are made anonymously any time of the day or night and are also received by those in need anonymously at any time of the day or night. Lowcountry Blessing Box Project also has an Amazon wishlist that you can make purchases from if you can’t make it to a box.

Building a Blessing Box is a great way to get involved and give back to the community! There are no rules as to the size, shape, or color but the location is very important. They ask that you do not build one near any others and that it is in a safe place for people to pull over. Once the build is complete, they ask that you send them some pictures and they will send you a decal and add your location to the list of the other Blessing Boxes.

You can also donate, buy merchandise, and volunteer your time. More volunteer opportunities are listed on their Facebook page like Free Laundry Days and Food Drives.
