Starting 2018 as a new momma of two, I am full of healthy ambitions. After giving birth to my sweet baby boy several months ago, I am already dreaming of my non-maternity jeans. Looking at my closet full of clothes that don’t quite fit yet has me wanting to get fit and healthy for myself and baby.
I love supporting Lowcountry businesses that provide healthy and nutritious food and drink options. At the first of the year, I had the opportunity to sample a smoothie restaurant right down the street from me, The Main Squeeze at Belle Hall: Fresh Juices & Smoothies. Fortunately, The Main Squeeze did not disappoint!
Three main things that impressed us at The Main Squeeze:
- Fresh Smoothie Recipes: The Main Squeeze is a local family business which provides fresh smoothies and juices made with fruits and vegetables. Menu items are vegetarian, most are vegan, and many recipes use organic ingredients. As a breastfeeding momma, I am always looking for milk boosting super foods. I ordered the Banana Baby smoothie, which included ingredients such as almond milk (made in the store), cinnamon, oats, flax, almond butter, banana, and honey. It was such a fresh, delicious option! My husband ordered a peanut butter favorite, The Arnold Schwarzevegan. This smoothie option included almond milk, banana, cherry, chocolate protein, peanut butter, and strawberry. I loved the fresh smoothie options with a favorable price point ranging from $3.99 to $11.99, depending on the size ordered. There is also a kid-size option available, and you can ask for a sample of a smoothie if you want to taste test before ordering.
- Delicious Food Options: The fresh ingredients didn’t stop at the smoothies and juices. There were also plenty of food choices on the menu. Options included a black bean wrap, black bean hummus and vegetable plate, fresh fruit, hummus toast, and avocado toast. I immediately knew I wanted the avocado toast. It was absolutely delicious with creamy avocado, walnut oil, and sea salt on a perfectly toasted whole grain bread slice. My husband chose the same and we both were impressed with the price of the food options, ranging from the $3.99 avocado toast to an $8.99 full salad. The best part was that we each had a medium fresh smoothie and avocado toast and were both very full and satisfied. For a bargain price of $20.00 total, we had a filling and healthy lunch option. They also offer house-made soups during the winter months (perfect for this chilly weather!) This is a great way to start off my healthy new year!
- The family friendly atmosphere: The final, and very important, thing that impressed us at The Main Squeeze was the family atmosphere. Past the fresh fruit station were toys, a kids table, and play area. My three-year-old loved this fun play area full of vintage Fisher Price toys. My family, as well as many other families, piled into the restaurant for a fresh meal that parents could actually enjoy because there was a place for the children to play and interact. I appreciate a local restaurant that appeals to the whole family. The Main Squeeze is a clean, playful environment to enjoy a meal after church, after a workout, or anytime you are looking for a fresh option.
I’m so thankful for this Lowcountry option full of fresh smoothies, juices, and healthy food options.
